I gave birth here 3 weeks ago, after my waters broke Hollywood-style at around midnight.

When arriving, I was promptly checked due to the sudden waters breaking, but because of my "inconsistent contractions" and the fact that no doctors were available to see me at that time of night, I was made to wait outside in the hall for nearly 3 hours, with contractions.

After a doctor checked me, I was ushered to a shared room in the ward at 4 in the morning. My partner was sent home, and I was left alone with a room mate who had given birth the day before.

After going to the Kreißsaal for pain relief, I was allowed to call my partner at 9 o'clock. By that point I was allowed to remain in the Kreißsaal in preparation for labour.

The midwives and students were lovely and professional. The doctor who laid the epidural was professional.

Despite finding the 24 hour labour extremely traumatising, the labour and delivery team was a blessing.

At the end of the day (at 11:45 pm) we had to deliver with the vacuum method (Saugglocke) as a last resort before a cesarean section. The doctor was professional, if somewhat distant. Thank goodness I was at this hospital and not, eg. having a home birth!

The team who thereafter had to manually remove my placenta and stitch me back up was also extremely professional and kind. The anesthesiologist in particular was the kindest professional!

Back in the ward was slightly stressful again. My child wasn't latching properly by day 3 and I didn't receive very much support or education on how to breastfeed or what alternatives I had. I was made to feel like I was a risk for my child because I was crying because my child was rejecting my breasts and did not settle. I feel let down by the team. My alternative was to give formula.

I didn't really get feedback on what medications I was given (unless I asked) nor what the next steps were throughout my stay. Due to the epidural and the long period of time between my water breaking and giving birth, I was on drips and given oral medication - basically I was hooked up to drips and needles for 4 days at that point, with hardly any idea what I was given, why or when I could be released.

Some members of staff (notably the younger ones) went out of their way to be kind to me and offer me social support, but I felt like I was a burden to some of the older midwives. This was exacerbated by the fact that my partner was only allowed to visit during visiting hours and I was alone from 8 pm until 9 am. I hardly dared to call the midwives overnight.

Nevertheless, I am glad I decided to have had my baby here - a full team of doctors, nurses and midwives ready to handle emergencies gave me peace of mind for my own and my child's physical care. Due to the nature of my delivery, I don't think my child nor I would have had such good physical care at another facility.

I cannot stress enough how traumatizing my experience at Frauenklinik was after giving birth to my baby a year ago. While I must commend the labor and delivery team—the doctors, midwives, and everyone involved in the birth itself were absolutely outstanding and exceeded all expectations—I cannot say the same about the maternity ward where I stayed afterward. My time there was nothing short of a nightmare, and it continues to haunt me to this day.

I had a C-section, and after being taken to my room in the middle of the night, I found myself completely alone. My family couldn’t be with me, and I was left entirely at the mercy of the nurses. Due to the surgery, I was unable to move my legs, and unfortunately, my phone was out of reach, lying at my feet. When I politely asked the nurse to please hand it to me, her response was shocking and deeply dehumanizing. She curtly told me that it was not her job and walked away, leaving me helpless and in tears.

This was just one example of the callousness and lack of basic empathy I experienced. There are many other incidents I won’t go into, but the behavior of the nurses in the maternity ward made me feel like I was a burden rather than a patient who had just undergone major surgery and needed care. It was clear that compassion and humanity were not priorities in their practice.

Even now, a year later, I am undergoing therapy to deal with the trauma caused by those days. I can barely bring myself to think about that time without feeling overwhelmed by anger and sadness. No one should have to endure what I went through, and I sincerely hope no other mother will have to face such horrible treatment.

As a 32-year-old woman with considerable life experience and a minimum understanding of the world, I can say with certainty that what is happening there is not right. The authorities must seriously rethink their approach and take steps to ensure change. If you truly care about treating people and staying true to the purpose for which this institution was founded, something must be done.

Administrative staff need to be trained on how to treat customers/patients, they are the first point of call hence the face of the hospital. Nurses and doctors are very nice.

Worst experience ever!

Patient handling very poor. Arrogant staff nurses. No coordination between doctors and nurses. Can't believe that it is a hospital.
